WCC Weekend Wrap Round 5 Cont.

Another successful weekend for the main grades with the Green Men claiming 3 out of 4 wins, two of which were our rights for 3s and 4s. Unfortunately 1s had another right loss.

1st grade - The day started poorly as we lost 3 early poles to be 3/13 in the blink of an eye. Starts from Mahn (21), Healy and Rupert (16 and 12), threatened to get us back on track, but none the less we found ourselves at 7/75. Then the Moffat brothers combined for a comeback that saw us climb to 176 before Tully was the 8th man out for a very well made 70. Even though we lost our ninth wicket soon after, by now it was game on again. Needing a run a ball with 32 to get, Newman (17 n/o) and Jesse, chipped away at it before Jesse finally succumbed for a well made 45, leaving us an agonizing 8 runs short!

2nd grade - Day 2 was one the weirdest days of cricket in MIG history. The bowlers started well with string of maidens and went on to dominate the first session. Skipper Gravies dismissing their "grafting" opener (12 of 110 balls) with the last ball before drinks. Leaving them at 3/70 .
The next session was a frustrating one, countless play and misses. The bowlers toiled away but Roseville fought back to be 3/140 at tea. Enter Reggie (Will Denny), first ball went for 5 no balls down to fine leg, Will then kicked the next ball to cover in his run up before trapping their set bat plum in front. That unbelievable start began the rot. All the hard work the bowlers had put in finally got rewarded.
Some great stump to stump bowling from Krusty lead to 3 LBWs and the impossible seemed possible. The last 3 wickets fell quickly and a great comeback was complete, with the Roses falling short at 196.
The seamers were phenomenal all day; Captain Ox (1/38 off 12), Will "Reggie" Denny (2/45 of 12 ), Parko (3/29 off 19) and Krusty (4/62 off 22).  A great win was capped off with a great team song.

3rd grade - Needing another 25 runs the green men went about picking up the first innings points in quick timing with just the loss of 1 wicket. Once first innings points were secured we went after quick runs to establish a lead of 115 runs with Lachy Molyneux not out on 66 and well supported by Ben Wigney and Brett Curry.

That left 49 overs in the day to try and pick up an outright win and with great bowling from all we managed to dismiss Roseville for 108 with 5 overs to go. Wickets were shared with Cobi,  Lachy, Vic, and Hobo all picking up 2 each. The 10 points puts 3s in to the top 4 with some key games coming up before Xmas.

4th grade - continued their success by claiming 10 points against Roseville with an innings to spare. The pick of the bowlers being Joel Davies with an outstanding 7/28 off 13.

5th grade - Chasing 277 5s where looking good at tea being 4/158. After tea we pushed on to around 4/230 odd with Jake De Angelis and Mark Dignam putting on a 100 run partnership. We then lost them both in one over with Jake making 108 off 96 balls and Mark Dignam 40. We then unfortunately had a collapse and fell 7 runs short all out for 270. Sam Jones also made 46 batting at 3 on debut.

Frank Gray Shield - Losing the toss the men in green were sent in to bowl on a flat Mac uni deck. The green men started off well having Macquarie 2-19 off not many. The boys did well to get them to 8-101 but then didn’t capitalise on the position, finally rolling them for 164 in the last over. The stars with the ball were Tully with 4-39 and Will Yeaman with 3-33.

Needing 165 for the win the mig started scratchy losing Ned at 1-10 off 3. Rahib and hamo then took the game away from Mac Uni putting on a 120 run partnership before losing hamo for a very classy 53. Mahny and Rahib then finished the job in the 33rd over with Rahib finishing on an unbeaten 78* to give the mighty men in green 6 points.
