Round 12 VS Georges River

1st Grade Rd 12 vs Georges River

Geogres River 248 Def By WCC 8/251

What a weekend 3 out of 4 teams guaranteed semi final play, absolutely excellent effort Men in Green and you all should be getting excited about finals.

First Grade turned up to Bexley most on time except for the tour bus of two kiwis, a central coaster and a mute who were as lost as a scientologist at a porno convention. 30 minutes late and the boys had warmed up. I lost the toss again 12 out of 12 this season. The dick looked good and Georges River batted first. The boys bowled well after the middle order of George Rivers came out swinging. 248 all out and a solid effort all round. BJ 3 for 45 Bugg 3 for 60 and TJ Man Whore 3 for 50. We had 11 overs to contend with and were 55 for none Louie McMillian looking exception of the hook and slim on the pull. After the boys had got over their man periods early on day two we had lost a couple of early wickets which caused the boys to be 80 for 2 until an angry blonde man turned up to the crease and belted a brilliant 81 ably supported by our middle order. We looked to chase the runs down quickly to maybe have another crack at Georges River late wickets saw the boys just wanting to get over the line. 250 for 8 and 6 points in the bag. On a whole a par performance but we know when we hit our straps we will beat anyone in this competition and have the complete game to do this.

2nd Grade Rd 12 vs Georges River

WCC 204 Def Georges River 138

2nd Grade played Burwood at home and for the first time this year Bourkey won the toss and we went in for a bat on a pitch that looked good but was slow and seaming. Apart from Bourkey, nobody got particularly settled and we lost constant wickets to finish up 8-193 at the end of the day off 86 overs, a slow and frustrating day as Georges River bowled tight and the slow outfield didn’t help the matter. The next week we came back but failed to build much on that score and were all out for 204 leaving Georges River needing 205 from 77 overs to beat us and take our spot at 5th. As mentioned Bourkey was the standout with a great captain’s knock of 82, Rory also made a significant if slightly subdued contribution of 36.

We went out to bowl fired up and looked good from the start with Lenny and Dan McKenna constantly beating the outside edge. Lenny picked up 3 wickets in his first spell and Dan was unlucky not to get any but it set the tone for an excellent day in the field where the green men were nearly constantly on top. Georges River put up little resistance as we rolled them for 138 with Lenny getting two more to register his first ever 5-for for the club and win the man of the match. Bourkey again contributed with 3 of his own and Rory and Josh got the others.

Overall an excellent win with the boys looking to gain a home finals berth and gain momentum for the finals run itself.

3rd Grade Rd 12 vs Georges River

Georges River 246 Def WCC 171

Cuz top scored with 57. Tom Kaye scored 35. Those were the only scores of note. From 3/120 to all out 170, suggests a lack of application from the batsmen. Poor fielding also meant we were chasing 247 instead of 180. Cuz was also best of the bowlers with 4/49. D Reynolds, N Heath and P Chapman took 2 wickets each.

In the end a disappointing season from 3rd grade who really couldn't put together two good weeks in a row. Hopefully we can go out with a win next week and help secure third place in the club championship.

4th Grade Rd 12 vs Georges River

Georges River 241 Tied With Georges River 241

4’s rocked up to a pitch that had potential to turn and move a bit for the seamers so Roger lost the toss and we were sent to bowl. With Gay Berry playing for thirds and others missing we had Andrew Fraser and Louie Anderson step up for us. Rupert and Graham kicked off our bowling, Rupert taking 2 wickets in two over’s, both to second slip. After this poor start they started to get some momentum but not before Craig claimed another wicket. Alexander was brought on for a spell, with a wicket dropped on the boundary by who else but David Morris, 4th grades commando on fielding. Unfortunately that wicket went on to make 83. Jonkers came on but was hit down the ground for four sixes so Roger was on after Jonkers 7 over’s. Anderson bowled but did not claim a wicket and Alexander was brought back on picking up two wickets with Roger at the other end picking up wickets and going for not many runs. Graham dismissed the two tail ender’s and we were chasing 241 with 12 over’s left of play. As we departed the field Roger approached Alexander and was offered the position of 3 in the order. Was it my lucky day? Surely. My tireless hours with bobby in the nets would have to pay of here. As we batted on Cockstain and J.Fraser were keeping out the days play until unfortunately Cockstain was caught for three and it was time for Alexander to join play. Statistics shouldn’t matter here but let’s just say Alexander didn’t trouble the scorer’s one bit and was soon of the field and copped endless remarks from the third graders. Anderson went out and made 21 off 18 balls batting well with Jake and seeing out the days play.

Day 2

Anderson and J.Fraser started our chase off and Fraser was unfortunately out in the first over for 13 and Gordo entered the game. Gordo and Anderson put on an excellent 60 run stand and occupied the crease. Louie was out caught for 56 a good knock and Gordo was still in on 21. President of Manly....Go Manly...Andrew Fraser Joined Gordo at the crease and was off the mark with a six down the ground. A.Fraser made 21 form 11 balls but was caught behind. Rupert was out there and Put on a thirty run partnership with Gordo, but Gordo was caught for 41, a great innings. Rupert and Graham batted but Rupert was out not much longer for a solid 26 with Graham on 2. Morris joined Graham and they built a good 24 run stand but Morris was out caught behind. Roger and Graham were ticking off the runs, batting really sensibly and we were looking good until Graham was caught in slips trying to crack a half volley. Jonkers joined Roger with 5 runs for a tie, 6 runs for a win. Roger hit a three and now on a well fought captain’s knock of 17* Jonkers was left with three to win. Jonkers hit a two and scores were tied. Surely this would be a memorable win. With an experienced head at the other end Jonkers had to last one ball left in the over...Jonks went for the big one he had been practicing all week and was unfortunately bowled, he pleaded with the umpire that the keeper had simply whipped off the bails but it was no deal and the game was a tie.

Curry 3-44 and 17*, Rupert 3-48 and 26, Alexander 2-31, Anderson 56, Tomlinson 41 and Graham 2-29 and 23.

It was a great game and we keep our place at second.

Peace out,
