Round 9 VS Southern Districts
1st Grade Rd 9 vs Southern Districts
Sthn Districts 95 & 122 DEF BY (OUTRIGHT) WCC 4/137(dec)
With Scott Ryan over in the Shaky Isles swallowing chewing gum in an effort to keep his appendix together, stand in captain Louie MacMillan met with Districts stand in skipper (the real skipper was on the way - running a bit late) and lo and behold, Warringah 1st grade won their 1st toss for the year. Louie wasted no time arrogantly sending them in on a good, but wearing track. Bug assured the skipper that batting second would be harder, and he had made the wrong call.
40.4 overs later, Bugs wisdom was there for all to see, his words no doubt haunting the stout captain, as Southern Districts had amassed an imposing 95 on arguably the competitions smallest ground. The pick of the bowlers was Gravies, who started the innings off aggressively, out bowling the visitors top order in an excellent combination with TJ ‘Kibby’ Johnson. Bug, Ethan and Frodo cleaned up the tail and middle order.
Somehow, Louie, TC, Jordan, and TJ combined to take down the target and scamper ahead by 50 or so after about 25 overs. Tab Rat missed out but looked good while he was there. Louie top scored with yet another 50 and very positively done.
Back in went SD’s who crashed to 3 for by stumps – Gravies again ripping and tearing.
The next week Warringah again applied themselves to the task and bowled well together to knock the visitors over cheaply once again, Gravies again the pick of the bowlers, always looking dangerous. Ethan bowled with great rhythm but missed out, the rest of the bowlers shared the wickets like a loving but financially disadvantaged family.
WCC wasted no time chasing down the total in what was a mirror innings of the first – same culprits doing the damage and the same ones missing out also.
10 incredibly important points to the Green men – well skippered by Louie, and a great all round team effort with absolutely everyone contributing.

Sthn Districts 160 & 142 DEF BY (OUTRIGHT) WCC 237 & 3/68
Second Grade played Southern Districts at Southern Districts so after a long drive we rocked up to Greenway and saw a green pitch the usual jungle of an outfield. Bourkey won the toss unusually and sent them in. We captured steady wickets but the predicted collapse never came and Southern Districts struggled to 160. Standouts were Lenny with 3-39 off 12.3 and Dan Mckenna, continuing his great form with 3-25 off 10.
With 29 overs left Captain Bourke sent us chasing a first week victory. After some flashy opening from Lenny and Robbo, we lost continual wickets to silly shot selections and we finished the day on an average 6-141 needing 20 more runs the next week.
When we returned the next week, the weather was shaping up to be a scorcher, not the kind of day you want when your playing in lego land way out west. So thanks to an infinitely wise suggestion to the captain we decided to bat on past their total, get as far ahead as we can and make them spend the hottest part of the day in the field. Our plan worked perfectly due to a solid 34 not out to Billy and another top score of 44 to Rory and we finished being bowled out for 237, a lead of 77.
With 60 overs left in the day we knew we had to get wickets so we attacked hard. Unfortunately Southern Districts actually dug in, which wasn’t expected by anyone and at tea they were 2 for 80. However we continued pushing and on a dry crumbling deck Dickie Wah and Bourkey spun Southern Districts out with spells of over 10 overs each. Some great fielding and intensity helped as well as the southerly change just after tea. As mentioned the standouts were Wah with 4-41 off 15 and Bourkey with 4-50 off 12.
The final equation was 66 runs needed off 15 overs, very do-able but rain clouds were gathering to threaten our outright. Even though it did rain and Southern Districts made a farce of tryin to play on by spending 10 minutes just trying to find the key to get the covers out, the result was never in doubt with Warringah needing only 10 overs to get the required runs. Some big hitting by Rory sealed the deal and we wandered over to watch 4th grade with 10 points under our belt.

Sthn Districts 148 & 7/68 DEF BY WCC 6/204(dec)
Sourthern districts batted 1st to score a slow 148. Redbull the pick finishing on 6/49. We ended on 3/45 @ stumps holding a slight edge.
Day 2 came and we passed them 3 down. TK #1 scoring 52 and Cuzza a well compiled 79, both added 116 for the 4th wicket. We declared @ 6/204 looking for an outright. Southern Districts only had 9 batsmen, but we could only manage to get 7 of those out by stumps to have them reeling on 7/68 when the umpires took us off an over early. Heath was best with 2/6 off 8, Redbull bagged 8 for the match, and Anstiss got 6 dismissals with the gloves, but MOM goes to Cuzza for steering us to 1st innings points.

4th Grade Rd 8 vs Southern Districts
Sthn Districts 108 & 8/162(dec) DEF BY (OUTRIGHT) WCC 6/121(dec)
Day 1:
4’s turned up to a hot, classic southern districts ground on a fair road that only had life for the first ten overs. We kicked off the match bowling. Chris or Gay Berry opened the bowling with Jonkers and they got us off to a good start taking two wickets each. The wickets slowed down and Rodger was bought into the bowling attack and claimed 4 wickets. One of them the most deceiving half trakker i have ever seen that cleaned bowled the guy. Rodger snared 4/16 and broke the milestone of 450 wickets. Craig Rupert or Tranny got a big left hander bowled and the big boy was not happy, even angrier than DM when there’s a dropped catch or a misfield. Their number 10 batsman who batted without gloves and pads so old the straps were belt buckles thought he would stop with a mid game chat while Jonkers is waiting to bowl to the us how much he respects Warringah. Touching. We finished half way through the day rolling them for 108 with some great bowling. We batted for the rest of the day getting off to a bad start with Craig Rupert getting out for a duck, Scotty White getting run out for a duck after getting a bit eager on backing up after a spray from DM the week previously. Grobsy batted maturely and magnificently supporting Rex who was booming them from the other end and got off the mark with a 6 down the ground. Rex was out for 32 and we finished 6/90 odd.
Day 2:
It was boiling hot and there was a warm wind blowing across the oval. Grobs and Jonkers started off our chase and did it easily with Grobs racking up a very well deserved 50* and Jonkers supporting him well with a solid 19*. DM decided to dangle the carrot in front of them and not go for a huge lead. We declared at 6/121 and went out to bowl. Jonkers was feeling the heat and didn’t open so C. Berry and Simmo Cleary opened up with Berry snatching two wickets bowling really well and Simmo one from his 3 overs then he went off and had a chunder on the sideline. I was brought on bowling to the psycho lefty but i was feeling good all ready for a good over. Well what can i say? Dot, dot, 4, 6, 3, dot. Not the best. But Alexander got the big fella LB next over and while we were celebrating the guy must have had to tie his shoe lace or something because he was standing at the crease for a long time. Rodger was brought on and took a couple. After that the opposition skipper decided to declare. Grobs and cockstain started us off and were looking good. The stain was hitting them well but was unfortunately out on 28. There was another quick wicket and Rex stepped onto the crease and was hitting them well with grobs and we were looking good. Grobs again batted absolutely superbly leading us home with an excellent 71* and Rex batting amazing as well finishing with a solid 45*. The pressure was on Scotty and me to make sure the score books were correct or there was gonna be hell. It was way too much pressure for teenagers. But fortunately it was all sweet. What a fluke. So we finished outright winners and fourth on the table.
This just shows if we keep coming to practice every week we can make the finals.
